Campus Energypolis generates nearly CHF 175 million in economic impact in Valais

A study conducted by the CREA Institute at the University of Lausanne highlights the significant economic impact of the Campus Energypolis for the canton of Valais. In 2024, the Campus ecosystem generated nearly CHF 175 million in added value and around 1,350 full-time equivalent jobs within the canton.

Commissioned by the Department of Economy and Education following a motion from the Grand Conseil, the study examines the economic impact of Campus Energypolis through several channels: the activities of the academic institutions, companies emerging from its entrepreneurial ecosystem, the education and training provided, as well as spending by students and visitors.

The results show that every franc invested by the canton of Valais in Campus Energypolis generates CHF 3.1 in added value for the cantonal economy, demonstrating the relevance of public investments in research, innovation and education infrastructures. The study also highlights the strong regional anchoring of the Campus: nearly 80% of employees working within Campus institutions reside in Valais.

Born from the collaboration between the canton of Valais and EPFL, Campus Energypolis today brings together EPFL Valais Wallis, the School of Engineering (HEI), The Ark Foundation, as well as several companies and start-ups active in the fields of energy, green chemistry and the environment. It has become a key driver of innovation and economic development for the canton.

These results confirm the strategic role of Campus Energypolis in developing a high-impact innovation ecosystem that contributes to the competitiveness and sustainable transition of the Valais economy.
